清康熙《嘉兴府志》卷1《疆域》：“茶院镇，治西南二十七里。”清宗源瀚等纂、民国徐则恂等修订：《浙江全省舆图并水陆道里记》（杭州，武林印书馆，1915年）之《海盐县五里方图》有茶院市，1990年版《浙江省地图册》有茶院，在海盐县西南，即此。
