隋开皇十六年（596）改斤城县置文城县，属文城郡①②。治所在今吉县西北30公里文城镇③。唐属慈州，天佑四年（907）避朱全忠讳，改为屈邑县④⑤。

注：
①文渊阁本《四库全书?太平寰宇记》慈州文城县：“（隋）十六年复于今吉乡县置耿州，改斤城为文城县，属耿州。十八年又改耿州为汾州，县仍属之。大业三年改汾州为文城郡，县属不改。”

②《元和郡县图志?河东道一》慈州文城县：“东南至州六十五里。本汉北屈县地属河东郡。后魏孝文帝于此置斤城县，属定阳郡。隋开皇十六年改斤城县为文城县。”“文城故城，在县北三十里。故老曰此城晋文公为公子时，避骊姬之难，从蒲奔狄，因筑此城，人遂呼文城。”
