隋开皇十八年（598年），置繁畤县，属代州①。治所在今繁峙县代堡村。大业二年（606年），属雁门郡。十二年（616年，）移治武州城②。

①《隋书》卷三十《志》第二十五?雁门郡 繁畤，“后魏置，并置繁畤郡。后周郡县并废。开皇十八年复置县。有东魏武州及吐京、齐、新安三郡，寄在城中。后齐改为北灵州，寻废。”（中华书局P852，1973年。）
《元和郡县志》卷十四?河东道三?代州 繁畤县，“本汉旧县，属雁门郡。汉末匈奴侵寇，旧县荒废。晋又置繁畤县，周省。隋开皇十八年重置于今县东六十里大堡戍。大业十二年移于武州城。”(中华书局P401，1983年）

光绪《山西通志》卷二十九《府州厅县考》七?代州 繁峙县。“隋开皇十八年，始置繁畤于今县东六十里大堡戎，隶代州。大业二年，罢州，置雁门郡，县仍隶焉。十二年，移治繁畤于西之武州城，即后齐北灵州故治也。”（中华书局P2593～2594，1990年。）
光绪《繁峙县志》卷一《地理志》“隋开皇十八年始置繁峙县于今县东六十里大堡，因汉雁门郡旧县名也。大业十二年移于代西之武州城。”又“隋繁峙县故城在县东六十里大堡村。”",
