B嘉庆《清一统志》卷49《冀州直隶州》：“堂阳故城在新河县西。汉高帝十一年封功臣孙赤为侯邑，后为县，属巨鹿郡。……宋皇祐中，始省为镇。按《水经注》：漳水自南宫北流，始至堂阳。《元和志》：堂阳县，东至冀州六十五里，以道里考之，疑即今新河县治。旧《志》作在南宫县西南二十里，误。”（第16册，第8页）
按：《清一统志》考证似误。因堂阳县得名是县治在堂水（今釜阳河）之阳（北侧），而新河县城在堂水之阴（南面）。而且里距亦相差五里。现暂按里定位。
