汉昭帝元凤五年（前76年）新市侯国来属，⑴辖境扩大。治巨鹿县（今河北平乡县西南平乡）。⑵宣帝地节二年（前68年），乐乡侯国来属，⑶辖境扩大。

⑵《元和郡县图志》卷15：“平乡县，本春秋时邢国，后为赵地，始皇灭赵，以为巨鹿郡，亦大称也。张耳与赵王歇走入巨鹿城，王离围之，即此地也。后魏自平乡故城移平乡县于此理之。”（中华书局，第428页）
嘉庆《清一统志》卷30《顺德府一》：“战国赵巨鹿邑。秦置巨鹿县，并置巨鹿郡。汉仍为巨鹿郡治。后汉移郡治廮陶，以巨鹿为属县。晋因之。后魏景明二年，改置平乡县。”
按：据《河北省志》第2卷《建置志》：“民国34年（1945年）县治移至乞村镇”（河北人民出版社，第286页），此乞村镇即今平乡县治，原平乡县治即今县西南平乡。
