东汉光武帝建武五年（公元29年）封。⑴治邯郸县（今河北邯郸市）。⑵建武十三年（37年）降为赵公国。⑶十九年（43年），复为王国。⑷辖邯郸、易阳、襄国、柏人、中丘等5县。⑸献帝建安十八年（213年），国除为郡。⑹

《畿辅通志》卷54：“邯郸旧城，在今邯郸县西南。《名胜志》：旧城在今治西南八里，俗呼为赵王城，世传赵敬侯自中牟徙都居此。《舆城记》：邯郸城大数十里。今县城及故城皆是。”
