北宋北宋建隆元年（960年）改殷城为商城，属光州（1），至道三年（997年）省入固始。治今河南商城（2）。

注：
（1）《舆地广记》卷21《淮南西路》：光州固始县，商城镇，皇朝建隆元年改曰商城，后省为镇入固始。（《丛书集成初编》，民国廿六年，3册，229页）《元丰九域志》卷5《淮南西路》：光州，建隆元年改殷城县为商城，后省为镇入固始。（北京，中华书局，1984年，上册，205页）嘉靖《商城县志》卷1《邦土志?沿革》：宋改殷城为商城，避宣祖弘殷之讳。（上海书店，《天一阁藏明代方志选刊续编》，60册）《续资治通鉴》卷1太祖建隆元年，帝讳匡胤，姓赵氏，考弘殷；三月，改天下郡县之犯御名、庙讳者。（北京，中华书局，1957年，1册，1、10页）则改殷城为商城在北宋建隆元年三月。
（2）嘉靖《商城县志》卷1《邦土志?沿革》：宋改殷城为商城，避宣祖弘殷之讳，至道三年省入固始，城遂废，金、元因之，隶于固始；成化十一年固始分西南旧墟复建商城县，是年，知县马鉴以西南僻远，奏役是邑于旧理。同卷《古迹》：古废城，刘宋置包信县，隋改曰殷城，在今县西，周围二里许，遗址犹存。据此，明商城县治在旧县东部重建，可视为一城，迄今未变，即今河南商城。",
