唐广明元年（880 年）原州陷入吐蕃，侨治临泾县①。后唐清泰三年（936 年）始正式辖临泾县②。宋至道三年（997 年）增辖彭阳县③。元（至元元年1264 年）改为镇原州。治所在今甘肃省镇原县东六十里④。段案：以元建立（至元元年1264 年）置镇原州。
①《新唐书》卷37《地理志一》原州：“广德元年没吐蕃，节度使马璘表置行原州于灵台之百里城。贞元十九年徙治平凉。元和三年又徙治临泾。大中三年收复关、陇，归治平高。广明后复没吐蕃，又侨治临泾。” 中华书局1975 年版，第968 页。
