唐武德四年（621年）复置，属南合州（1）。治所即今广东省遂溪县西椹川村（2）。天宝元年（742年）省入遂溪县（3）。

（1），《旧唐书》卷41?岭南道?雷州：“隋合浦郡之海康县。武德四年平萧铣，置南合州，领海康、隋康、铁杷、椹川四县。贞观元年改为东合州。二年改隋康为徐闻县。八年改东合州为雷州。天宝元年改为海康郡。乾元元年复为雷州也。”“遂溪，旧齐铁杷、椹川二县，后废，改为遂溪也。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，5册，1759页）。作武德四年置南合州时复置椹川。
（2），《嘉庆一统志》卷450?雷州府?古迹?椹川废县：“在遂溪县西北。…旧有椹县，开皇十八年改为椹川县，大业初废入扇沙。旧志，废椹川县，在县西北五十里。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，168册）。宣统元年《广东地舆全图》遂溪县图：遂溪县西有椹川村。（台湾，成文出版社《中国方志丛书》第108号）。此村当为古城所在地。
（3），新旧《唐书》无椹川县具体废去年代。《舆地纪胜》卷118?广南西路?雷州?遂溪县：引《元和郡县志》云，天宝元年改铁杷为遂溪，隶雷州。（北京，中华书局，1992年，4册，3451页）。据此并参见《旧唐书》，作天宝元年废改铁杷、椹川为遂溪县。",
