齐建元元年（479年）置，属南海郡（1）。治所在今广东省新丰县东新丰江南岸长吉屯（2）。隋开皇十八年（598年）改名休吉县（3）。

（1），《南齐书》卷14?广州南海郡，领有新丰县。（北京，中华书局，1972年，1册，262页）。作齐建元元年置。
（2），《嘉庆一统志》卷445?惠州府?古迹?新丰废县：“在长宁县东南。南齐置，属南海郡。隋改曰休吉，大业初省入河源县。明隆庆三年分属长宁。按：今长宁县有新丰江，犹以故县为名，或曰即今县东之长吉里也。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，166册）。今据此定于长吉里，即今广东省新丰县东新丰江南岸长吉屯。
（3），《隋书》卷31?地理下：“龙川郡，平陈，置循州总管府。大业初府废。统县五：归善，带郡；河源，开皇十一年省龙川县入焉。又有新丰县，十八年改曰休吉，大业初省入焉；…。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，881页）。",
