南朝陈改常宁县置。⑴治所在三洞口（今湖南常宁县驻地宜阳镇南车田乡羊山村）。⑵属湘东郡。隋开皇九年（589）属衡州。⑶大业三年（607）属衡山郡。⑷唐武德四年（621）属衡州。⑸神龙二年（706）移治麻州。⑹
