约刘玄更始元年（公元23）改大武县复名。⑴治所在今湖南临武县驻地城关镇东北9公里土地乡南、武水北。东汉、三国吴、晋、南朝宋、齐、梁、陈仍属桂阳郡。⑵隋开皇九年（589）平陈，属郴州。⑶大业三年属桂阳郡。⑷唐武德四年（621）属郴州。⑸如意元年（692）改名隆武县。⑹
⑴据考证，东汉恢复西汉郡县名，大多在刘玄更始元年（公元23）。
