唐咸亨二年（671）置。⑴治所在今湖南蓝山县驻地塔峰镇。⑵属郴州。天宝元年（742）改名蓝山县。⑶
⑴⑶《旧唐书》卷40《地理三》：“蓝山，汉南平县，属桂阳郡。隋废。咸亨二年，复置南平县。天宝元年，改为蓝山。”（北京，中华书局，5册，1618页）
⑵嘉庆《清一统志》卷375《桂阳州》：“南平故城，在蓝山县东。汉置县，属桂阳郡。后汉以后因之。隋省。唐咸亨中复置，徙县治。《元和志》：蓝山县本汉南平县，至隋废。咸亨中复置于今理。《舆地纪胜》：南平故城在蓝山县东五里。《县志》：汉南平县，今县东南平乡是。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，138册，第10页）",
