南朝梁置。⑴治所大致在今湖南沅陵县北部。⑵属沅陵郡。⑶陈因之。⑷隋平陈，因之。⑸隋后期废。⑹
⑴《隋书》卷31《地理下》：“盐泉，梁置。”（中华书局，第3册，第890页）
按：暂作梁天监元年（502年）置。
⑵《湖南省志》第2卷《地理志（修订本）》第2篇《沿革》：“盐泉，梁置。今沅陵县北部。”（湖南人民出版社，上册，468页）
按：有关盐泉县的记载，正史中仅见于《隋志》；其遗址，嘉庆《一统志》辰州府内亦未见记载。或此盐泉县为《隋志》误记，不在今湖南境内？现暂据常见资料作此简单判断，待详考。
