宋元嘉九年（432年）置（1）。领广化、单城、逐度、海邻、化隆、开宁、绥定、石门、威覃等县。郡治广化县，治所在今广东省阳春县西南河口镇。辖境相当今广东省阳春县西南部地区（2）。隋开皇十年（590年），郡废，县属高州（3）。

（1），《宋书》卷38?州郡志四?广州刺史?高凉太守，领“思平、莫阳、平定、安宁、罗州、西巩、禽乡”等县。宋康太守：“文帝元嘉九年立。”领广化、单城、逐度、海邻、化隆、开宁、绥定、石门、威覃等县。（北京，中华书局，1974年，4册，1197、1200页）。
（2），据所领县故址及其后政区变迁和《一统志》广东各县沿革，辖境相当今广东省阳春县西南部地区。
（3），《隋书》卷31?地理下：“高凉郡，梁置高州。”统县九，首县“高凉：旧置高凉郡。平陈废，大业初复置。”杜原县：“旧曰杜陵。梁置杜陵郡，又有永宁、宋康二郡。平陈，并废为县。十八年改杜陵曰杜原，宋康曰义康。大业二年二县并废入杜原。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，882页）。",
