唐大历八年（773年），析禺、罗、辩、白四州置，属岭南道（1）。领龙化，温水，南河，龙豪四县。州治龙化县，治所即今广东省化州县西北文楼镇。辖境相当今广西陆川县和广东省化州县大坡以西北的平定河流域（2）。宋开宝五年（972）州废，龙化县并入辩州石龙县（3）。

（1），《唐书》卷43上?地理7：“顺州顺义郡。大历八年，容管经略史王翃析禺、罗、辩、白四州置。县四：龙化，武德四年置，以西有龙化水名之，六年隶辩州；温水，本隶禺州；南河，武德五年析石龙置，隶罗州；龙豪，武德四年析合浦置，隶白州。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，4册，1110页）。
（2），据所领龙化，温水，南河，龙豪四县故址，辖境相当今广西陆川县和广东省化州县大坡以西北的平定河流域。
（3），《太平寰宇记》卷167?化州：辩州，“皇朝太平兴国五年改为化州，废陵罗、龙化、罗辩三县。但领石龙一县，并割到废罗州之石城、廉江、干水、零绿四县为吴川一县入当州，与石龙共二县煎盐纳本州。其废县三廉江、干水、零绿人户煎盐输廉州。”石龙县下云：陵罗、龙化、罗辩，“以上三县，皇朝开宝五年废入石龙县。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，30册）。",
