北宋天禧四年（1020年）分江南路置，（1）治洪州（今江西南昌市）。领洪、虔、吉、袁、抚、筠等州及兴国、建昌、南安、临江等军地。（2）南宋建炎四年（1130年）江南东、西路复合为江南路。（3）
