南朝梁大宝元年（550年）分武陵郡另属武州置。（1）治江夏（今湖北武汉市武昌）。领有江夏、巴陵等郡。（2）承圣元年（552年）又分巴陵郡另属巴州。（3）

（1）《宋本太平寰宇记》卷118《江南西道十八》朗州：“《舆地志》云：梁太清四年（550年），湘东王承制于荆州，割武陵郡置武州。”（北京，中华书局，2000年，219页）按：据《梁书》卷5《元帝纪》“大宝元年（550），世祖犹称太清四年。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，1册，114页）当作大宝元年（550）分武陵郡另置武州。
