唐天宝元年（742年）改饶州为鄱阳郡，改新昌为浮梁，治鄱阳（今波阳），辖鄱阳、余干、乐平（今县东长乐水与乐安河交汇处北岸的洺口附近）、浮梁、弋阳五县，至德二载（757年）析鄱阳部分地置至德县，属寻阳郡（1），辖境变化。乾元元年（758年）又改为饶州，割弋阳入信州。
