唐天宝元年（742年）改江州为浔阳郡，治浔阳（今江西九江市），辖浔阳、都昌（治今县东北洞门口）、彭泽（治今县南黄岭乡旧县街）三县。至德二载（757）析鄱阳郡鄱阳（今波阳）、宣城郡秋浦（今安徽贵池）二县地置至德县（即清建德，今安徽东至县南部）来属（1）。乾元元年（758年）析至德入饶州，改浔阳郡复为江州（2）。
