南朝梁普通四年（523年）分广州置。（1）治齐康（今广东省徐闻县南五里镇）。领有齐康郡。（2）太清三年（549年）改为南合州。（3）

（1）《梁书》卷3《武帝纪下》普通四年（523年）六月乙丑：“分广州置成州、南定州、合州、建州。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，1册，67页）又《隋书》卷31《地理志下?合浦郡》海康县：“梁大通中，割番州合浦立高州，寻又分立高州。大同末，以合肥为合州，此置南合州。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，884页）与之不同。
（2）胡阿祥《六朝疆域与政区》第二节《梁政区建置表》谓：合州治徐闻（今广东海康县）。领有齐康郡。（陕西，西安地图出版社，2001年，399页）
（3）《梁书》卷3《武帝纪下》太清三年（549年）七月甲子，诏曰：“合州为南合州。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，1册，92页）而《通典》卷184《州郡十四》雷州：“梁分置合州，大同末，以合肥为合州，以此为南合州。”（北京，中华书局，1988年，5册，4953页）与之不同。",
