唐光启三年（887年）置，治昇州（今江苏南京市）。领昇州。（1）五代梁乾化二年（912年）吴国置镇海军节度使，领有昇州，故武宁军节度使当废于乾化二年（912年）（2）。
注：
（1）宋《景定建康志》卷15《疆域志一·地为治所》：唐“乾元以后改为昇州治所……光启三年（887）年还为昇州治所，仍置节镇”。又卷12《建康表八》：唐“昭宗景福二年（893年），冯宏铎为昇州刺史兼武宁军节度使。”（《宋元方志丛刊》，北京，1990年，2册，1520、1466页）按：唐光启三年（887年）复置昇州（今江苏南京市），姑作此年即为武宁军节度使治所。
